|

For Most people, weight loss exercise means aerobics – running, jogging, kickboxing or some other type of routine where you get your heart racing for 30 to 45 minutes. It’s true, that one hour of aerobic exercise probably burns more calories than one hour of weight training. However, the calories burned during exercise are only part of the story. When you’re finished lifting weights, your muscles need repair themselves; this repair process burns additional calories. Further, the result of this repair... |

Weight Lifting And Weight Loss |
|
During the Jane Fonda era, everyone focused on aerobic exercises for weight loss. While it is true that aerobic exercise uses fat as fuel, weight lifting is an essential part of a weight loss regime. Many people undertake only one component when attempting weight loss. What I mean here is, they may take up jogging, but neglect to improve their eating choices. On the other hand, maybe they start weight training, but neglect both improvements in their eating and undertaking cardiovascular exercise. Weight loss is a three-pronged process: weight lifting, cardiovascular exercise and healthy eating. This article will focus on the importance of weight lifting and weight loss. If you are like... |

Why Weight Loss Products Don't Work
Author:
Margo Courtney
Did you know that less than 2% of dieters lose weight and then manage to keep it off? YOU ARE NOT TO BLAME, if you've tried many different diets and weight loss products and have still been unable to lose the weight. Your dieting efforts have been condemned to failure right from the start. Here’s why… The weight loss industry is worth billions of dollars and exists on repeat sales! You lose some weight and get encouraged, put it all back on again and get discouraged, so you need to purchase more of their product or program, and round and round it goes. A recently released government report states this truth, "According to almost all weight-loss experts, if there is a key to long-term maintenance success, it requires permanent lifestyle changes on the part of the dieter : nutritional eating at moderate caloric levels, a regular physical fitness routine, and abandonment of old habits that may have contributed to weight gain." Government studies also reveal that people who are successful at weight loss are the ones who make lifestyle changes. If people make only temporary changes, they get temporary results – as they did in the past. A report published by the Colorado State University found that "Many diet products and programs offer a quick, short-term fix, but there is no "magic bullet" for weight loss. Approximately 50 million Americans go on a diet each year — yet only 5 percent keep the weight they lose off. Many trying to lose weight continually struggle to find an effective weight loss method. However, the only proven way to lose weight and keep it off is by making permanent lifestyle changes. You must eat healthier, watch portion sizes and be active." It continues - "Many prescription diet medicines have side effects and may not work for long-term weight loss. Over-the-counter pills containing the appetite suppressant PPA (phenylpropanolamine hydrochloride) can raise blood pressure. Over-the-counter pills containing ephedra may cause serious side effects, including dizziness, increased blood pressure or heart rate, chest pain, heart attack, stroke, seizure and even death. Currently, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is taking action to limit and/or ban the use of PPA and ephedra in over-the-counter medications and dietary supplements" Many weight loss products are ineffective, or have undesirable, and sometimes dangerous, side effects. These include bulk fillers, diet patches, electrical muscle stimulators, appetite suppressing eyeglasses, magic weight loss earrings and magnet diet pills. Reliance on a specific product does not teach healthy, lifelong eating habits. They may help to lose weight temporarily, but that weight will be regained once ‘normal’ eating patterns are resumed. Using these products helps to avoid eating a healthy diet. The ‘secret’ to losing weight and keeping it off is a healthy diet, maintained as a lifestyle. This has another major benefit – increased health. If you are sick and tired of yo-yo dieting, and you want to achieve permanent weight loss....

Detox Diet |
|
The phrase “detox diets” specifically refers to a class of diets that help in discharging toxins accumulated in the body. One of the major reasons for a detox diet is overeating during special occasions. The human body is exposed to toxins of undefined nature either from the food they eat, the environment, and its own waste. As these toxins increase, the human body is exposed to a number of illnesses like weight gain, cellulite, headaches, dull skin, fatigue, aches and pains, and a lowered immunity. Detox diets are said to be very helpful in purging the toxins from the body. In a detox diet, people consume only fruits, vegetables and unprocessed natural food. Fresh homemade vegetables are also used along with a detox diet. Detox diets are said to destroy the environmental toxins contained in water, food, and the air that are found in the human body. The ingredients of almost all detox diets can be described as liver tonics (milk thistle, barberry, dandelion), digestive aids (ginger, globe artichoke, peppermint) and laxatives (fennel, Psyillum) and diuretics (birch, dandelion). Some Detox diets consist of lemon in warm water, flaxseeds, and bentonite clay for breakfast. Lunch consists of salads of tomato, lettuce, cucumber, peppers, corn, kidney beans, low fat cheese, and peas. For dinner, the detox diet recommends apples, low fat free yogurt and fruits like apple, oranges, nectarines, and peaches. A detox diet contains approximately 600-750 Kcals per day. It strictly forbids meat, fish, alcohol, and stimulants like coffee. Detox diets are known to make a person feel better, even lighter, but there is little scientific evidence of any good coming out of it. The basic flaw with detox diets is their concept that meat has a higher level of toxins than fruits and... |
