New Research On Popular Weight Loss Diets
A recent study gives some insight on several popular weight loss diets. Tufts University researchers assigned 160 overweight or obese people to either the Atkins Diet, Weight Watchers, Zone Diet or Ornish Diet. After 12 months of dieting, the results showed that the individuals who followed their diet plan closely lost the most weight, regardless of which weight loss diet they were on. The study concluded that all four diets worked equally well in the short term. As for the long term, there is no conclusive evidence that these diets are effective or safe. As most weight loss diets can help you lose weight in the short term, developing a healthy lifestyle that helps you achieve and...

Weight Loss Pills

Author:
Kent Pinkerton

Everybody wants to be slim these days. This trend is observed in teenagers and senior citizens, and everyone in between. Regular exercise and good eating habits go a long way in keeping those excess pounds at bay. However, everybody does not find the time to exercise. Students and working people find it extremely difficult to take time out of their hectic routines. Severely obese people cannot exercise, as they get exhausted very quickly. Weight loss pills or diet pills are very effective and beneficial for such people.

Weight loss pills are developed after lot of research. All aspects of weight loss such as body metabolism, appetite and carbohydrate intake are taken into account. Most diet pills are safe. Different diet pills contain different herbs and ingredients. Some diet pills work on the theory of suppressing the appetite, while some work by elevating the metabolic rate. Eventually, all pills have the same goal, which is to reduce weight. These pills are usually targeted to lose four to eight pounds a month. It is advisable to stop using a pill if it fails to produce any weight loss in six months. Weight loss achieved by weight loss pills may be permanent if the person adopts a good and healthy eating pattern and exercise after stopping the medication. Some pills start working right from the moment they are consumed while some others may require time before they actually start showing results.

It is important to take a physician’s advice before taking any kind of weight loss pills. Certain drugs cannot be used for a long time and some drugs may not be safe for a pregnant woman. Heart patients should avoid taking weight loss pills. Dosage taken should not be more than what is recommended. Several companies assure guaranteed results and offer attractive money-back offers. It is important that the credibility of such products and companies be verified. Intake of pills that are incompatible with a certain individual’s body disposition may result in severe side effects.

The Mediterranean Diet: Healthy Dietary Advice from Across the Sea
The popularity of the Mediterranean Diet began with a rather simple equation: the people of Greece and Southern Italy tended to eat a diet rich in fat, yet had less cardiovascular disease than people in the U.S. How could this be? The answer seems to lie in the Mediterranean's reliance on the monosaturated fat known as olive oil. Olive oil forms the basis of Mediterranean cooking--it is the key ingredient in preparing everything from pasta to steak. Olive oil is also considered an antioxidant, so it can be effective in the fight against cancer. However, following the Mediterranean Diet can be a challenge. While 40 percent of one's total calories are derived from fat, dieters can only eat small portions of red meat. Even fish and poultry are de-emphasized, as are milk and milk products. However, unlike other diets, the Mediterranean Diet allows you to eat a fair amount of bread and potatoes, and you can eat eggs as often as every other day. You can even drink wine in moderate amounts. It should be pointed out that the Mediterranean Diet offers little in the way of saturated fat or trans fat. This means that dieters have to avoid certain oils as well as margarine, peanut butter, cakes and cookies. Dieters are also encouraged to cut the total amount of fat they eat each day. A study conducted in France showed that people who had had at least one heart attack who planned their meals according to a Mediterranean diet were less likely to suffer from subsequent heart attacks than those who followed a typical diet recommended by the American Heart Association. Another study conducted last year indicated that those who used the Mediterranean diet, exercised, and abstained from smoking were less likely to die than those who followed...
