Detox Diets – The Next Diet Fad |
|
If you have been on the diet front lately, you have probably heard of detox diets. Basically, detox diets are the next big player in the fad diet game. Like Atkins, Southbeach, even the cabbage diet, different detox diets are popping up all over the internet and in bookstores. What exactly are detox diets, do they work, and are detox diets safe? The premise behind detox diets is that your body is full of toxins, many of which come from the foods you eat. A basic detox diet will have you fast for a certain period of time, which means you will not eat at all. You will then only eat specific foods that are believed to be toxin free, completely refraining from other foods, such as sugar, red... |

Exposed: The 95% Dieting Lie That's Keeping You Fat |
|
Repeat a lie often enough and people take it as truth. This describes the plight of the hackneyed statistic that 95% of all diets fail. Writers still tout this number as “Paul’s Gospel” even though this study happened over 50 years ago. Dr. Albert Stunkard, Emeritus Director of the Weight and Eating Disorders Program at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, crafted this investigation in the 1950’s. After examining 100 dieters, Dr. Stunkard found that only two people out of 100 sustained their ideal dieting weight after two years. Much in the world of dieting has changed since then, and new research heralds more change. Even Dr. Stunkard is a part of these advances. In 1996,... |

Dieting - The 'No Diet' Diet
Author:
Chelsea Mettarod
Dieting doesn’t work. C’mon, if it did, we’d all be size 8 and running around in our bikinis this summer, wouldn’t we? And we’re not. You’re probably like me. You think you’ve tried them all. I found a fun web site called Faddiet.com First one on the list, “The Cabbage Soup Diet.” Remember that one? I tried it when I was a teenager along with my mother. The actual soup tasted pretty good, and each day we were allowed certain other foods. It’s all there on the site. We could eat all the cabbage soup we wanted. It helps to like cabbage soup. Most of the site is totally humorous. They do list the basics of the diets, but it’s funny. The Scarsdale Diet is listed, along with the Grapefruit Diet and the Caveman Diet. The Caveman Diet part was really funny. On Monday it says, “Breakfast: Ugh, me hate first day of week. I hungry.” Have you ever heard of the Russian Air Force Diet? Me, neither, but it’s there. Then there’s a link with 50 Diet Tips. Go see for yourself! But, like I said, dieting doesn’t work. Why is that? When we think of a diet, we think of it as a short-term solution to a long-term problem. See the difficulty? We can’t just hop on a diet and get off when we’re done. No. It doesn’t work that way. Trust me, I’ve tried it. I’ve been dieting ever since I was a teenager. I’m 45 now and I’ve learned my lesson. After getting up to 210 lbs several years ago, I was frustrated with dieting and frustrated with myself. I thought there was something I was doing wrong. Why didn’t the diet work? The answer is obvious. No matter what diet I did or how successful I was, I kept going back to the same old eating habits eventually. Now I’m down to 130 lbs and I’ve been there for several years. How did I do it? I stopped dieting and changed the way I eat for the rest of my life. I stopped eating the things I knew put weight on me and started eating only what I can stay thin with. You know your body. You can do this. Consult a nutritionist if you want, too. I also started exercising. I hate exercising, so I do yoga and I swim. Sometimes I take a dance class. My rule is that I exercise for at least half an hour, preferably an hour, at least three times a week. That finally worked. Chelsea Mettarod hopes someday to do stand up comedy. Weight Lifting And Weight Loss |
|
During the Jane Fonda era, everyone focused on aerobic exercises for weight loss. While it is true that aerobic exercise uses fat as fuel, weight lifting is an essential part of a weight loss regime. Many people undertake only one component when attempting weight loss. What I mean here is, they may take up jogging, but neglect to improve their eating choices. On the other hand, maybe they start weight training, but neglect both improvements in their eating and undertaking cardiovascular exercise. Weight loss is a three-pronged process: weight lifting, cardiovascular exercise and healthy eating. This article will focus on the importance of weight lifting and weight loss. If you are like millions of people, you have been concerned about your weight. You may even consider yourself to have a poor metabolism. Your metabolism is critical to your weight loss efforts. Your metabolism is an important part of how you lose your weight and how you keep it off. Metabolism is like the motor of your body. Your metabolism is the rate at which your body uses fuel, or burns calories when you are at rest, just to maintain the regular functions of your body. Typically, people use 60-75% of their calories at their resting metabolic rate and can burn more calories if they participate in exercise or other physical activities. However, it isn’t just the activity rates that affect your metabolism. Your muscle tissue is where the bulk of your calories are burned in your body. Unfortunately, if you are not participating in activities that will maintain your lean muscle mass, you will start to lose approximately one half pound of lean mass every year after around the age of 30. So, the more lean muscle mass you have, the better your metabolism works, as it is burning more calories and fat... |
